Star Wars Battlefront 3: EA Confirms DICE-Respawn Shooter

Wardogs' CEO says DICE and Respawn are working on Star Wars Battlefront 3. Here's what's actually known, what's rumor, and why we're cautious.

Star Wars Battlefront 3 has been "dead" since 2022. Nobody told the rumor mill. This week the CEO of a rival shooter studio casually said the quiet part out loud, and now everybody's refreshing EA's newsroom again.

Last updated: October 23, 2026

Update: EA confirms a DICE and Respawn shooter

  • On October 21, EA's staff memo (the same one that announced BioWare's shutdown) said DICE and Respawn will team up on a "future shooter project."
  • EA did not name the game. Variety and others report it's Star Wars Battlefront 3, which matches Brammer's comment below.
  • The memo also lists Star Wars Jedi 3 and Marvel's Iron Man as still in development.
  • Still no title, platforms or release window from EA or Lucasfilm.

What was actually said

Joe Brammer, CEO of Bulkhead — the studio behind Wardogs — said in a video clip picked up by GamesRadar+ that the Battlefield studio is on it, with help:

  • His words: "DICE and from what I've heard Respawn are working on Battlefront 3."
  • He added he's "not sure what that means for Battlefield."
  • No announcement, no date, no platforms. EA and Lucasfilm haven't confirmed anything.

Note the "from what I've heard." This is a studio boss repeating industry chatter, not a leak with receipts.

Why this rumor has legs now

Brammer's comment lands right after another report stirred the pot:

  • Giant Bomb's Jeff Grubb pointed to an Electronic Gaming Monthly column claiming Disney has big plans for Battlefront.
  • That report says Lucasfilm is shopping for a development partner, with DICE and Bungie named as front-runners.
  • DICE made 2015's Battlefront and 2017's Battlefront II. Respawn already makes Star Wars Jedi and Apex Legends for EA.
  • Lucasfilm has said it's being "more flexible" with Star Wars games lately — but that was about other projects, not Battlefront.

So two stories, two different answers on who's building it. Treat both as unconfirmed until someone with a logo on the stage says otherwise.

The 2nd Shift take

Battlefront II's redemption arc is one of the best comeback stories of its generation — it launched as a loot-box disaster and ended up a game people still boot up for Supremacy nights. A sequel built by DICE with Respawn's movement chops sounds like a cheat code on paper.

But we'd pump the brakes. DICE just spent years climbing out of Battlefield 2042's hole, and splitting that studio's attention is exactly how live games get neglected. If this is real, we want two things: no pay-to-win nonsense at launch, and a long, real content roadmap instead of a hero roster that stalls after six months. Hype is free. Trust has to be earned back.

Got a take? Bring it to the 2nd Shift Discord — the late crew is already arguing about it.
